Potato Croquette Casserole

2 lb Potatoes (6-8 medium)
1/4 c Butter
1 Onion, chopped
2 Cloves garlic, minced
1/3 c Whipping cream
1 c Grated cheddar cheese
1 ts Salt, or to taste
1/4 ts Black pepper, or to taste
pn Nutmeg


Topping:
1 c Breadcrumbs
1 c Sliced almonds
1/4 c Butter, melted


Peel potatoes and slice into even pieces. Cook in boiling water until tender. Melt butter and saute onions and garlic until translucent. Drain potatoes well. Mash potatoes and then add the cooked onion/garlic mixture. Mix in cream, cheese and spices. Mix topping ingredients together. Using 1/2 the topping mixture, sprinkle some on the bottom and sides of casserole. Spoon in potato mixture. Sprinkle remaining topping on top of potatoes. Bake in 350F oven for about 30 minutes, or until completely heated through.
